Finished

A few minutes ago I shed a tear. Two in fact. Tears of joy. I honestly cannot recall the last time that happened. Was it something wonderful I ate? Or maybe I cried when laughing with a friend? The first draft of my novel is finished. 124 873 words. I can finally play Battlefield 3 (and what do you know – the game was released today! Coincidence? I think not!).

Even though it is a momentous achievement, not only personally, but for science fiction readers as well, there is much to be done. Starting tomorrow I will read the whole thing quickly to iron out some plot changes I made along to way (i.e. for consistency). That will hopefully only take a few days. Once I’m done with that I won’t touch it for 6 weeks. After those weeks I’ll start my first thorough edit.

  1. Thank you for stopping by my blog and your kind words. Also, congratulations on finishing your novel. Lastly, as a native English (American) speaker, I wanted to compliment you on your English – it is superb. (Although I’m ashamed to admit it, you seem to have a better grasp of English vocabulary and grammar than most Americans.)

Continued success in your literary career.

    1. You’re welcome! I really liked your poem πŸ™‚
Thank you so so much! Your words are really warming. You can’t imagine how much time I spent doubting myself because I’m not a native speaker and because it seems like such a far-fetched and obscene dream to become an English writer even though I’m from Sweden. Especially considering how hard it is to get published.
      Good luck with your poetry.

    1. No worries! It’s easy to miss one or two posts every now and again πŸ˜‰
Thank you! Finishing the first draft really made me happy. can’t wait to start my third draft. Yes I get it haha πŸ˜€

  2. It’s always a momentous occasion when we finish our manuscripts. The number of people who quit before they reach the end of their manuscripts is amazing to me. Well done! You definitely deserve to play Battlefield 3. (I won’t pretend to know what that is, other than I’m sure it’s the next best thing to beer and pizza.)

    1. Yes, so I’ve heard, which is very sad. I do wish more people would be able to finish their manuscripts. I did actually feel some mental obstacle making it hard to finish the manuscript towards the end because I knew the finished text would not be accurate compared to what I had imagined (in my head). Let’s just hope it’s even better. Thanks! I’ve been playing a lot of Battlefield 3 lately πŸ˜‰ Really need the break!
