Believe it or not, but Prada is having a short story competition! I read about it a week ago but forgot to mention it. The prompt, and description, is as follows:
“What are the realities that our eyes give back to us? And how are these realities filtered through lenses?”
By using the metaphor of prescription glasses, Prada enters a world made of written words, rather than spoken, thus launching a challenge to explore and enhance the individual interpretation of reality. Optical eyewear become an opportunity and a tool to investigate diverse creative worlds: a preferred channel and a window on our world, and – why not – on new potential worlds.
Even though this prompt allows a wide array of interpretations I am utterly stumped as to what I should write. At this point I’m not even sure I’ve got something worth submitting. If I get an idea I’ll definitely try to craft a good piece for them, but as of now, I’ll leave the prompt here, for me to look at every now and again and scratch my head in frustration.

Good luck!

SPECTACLES
There was once a man who had a remarkable pair of spectacles, rather like Reactolite Rapides except that, like a mood ring, they changed their colour according to his feelings of the moment. When sad, all the world would appear in the colours of sadness; when fearful, in the colours of fear; when angry, in the colours of anger; when contented, in the colours of joy.
He could make no sense of these varied colourings which would not stay still. He had no success in trying to understand why the world kept changing in this way. He suspected that his spectacles might be the cause of the mystery, but every time he took them off to look at them they were, of course, completely clear.
Ah this is actually a great idea! See, this is the kind of intriguing metaphor to spectacles I can’t think of right away. If only I had your everflowing creativity and imagination. Will you participate?
No. I’m not one for extended writing. Also “SPECTACLES” was published on my other site (The Book Of Guff) which may disqualify it ;I read through some of the rules for the competition till I got bored. On the other hand, do feel free to make something from the idea for yourself if you wish. You could give me a small credit for the original idea if that makes you feel better about that 🙂 Who knows: you might even win.
Sweet blog! I found it while searching on Yahoo News. Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News?
I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there!
