Sweetheart

Sweetheart

That door is haunted.

If you leave, you can never return.

Is that what you want?

To leave?

How should I interpret your answer,

when you face away,

in silence?

Are you pondering our memories,

the times we shared,

the promises made,

and the warmth that I gave?

Or are you thinking of that which is shrouded in black?

Of our future and our tomorrow,

and memories of places we’ve never been?

I want you to share my life,

so that we can create one.

Another life.

A New life.

For us.

And for her.

Sweetheart,

please,

take a step back,

another step back from the door,

from which you cannot return.

Can’t you hear me?

I begin to wonder,

as you walk through that door.

  1. When someone leaves, you are forced to watch them go … because most of the time, there’s nothing we can do to stop them. πŸ™‚
Nicely written. See, you can write about love, too!!

    1. I know! That’s what I wanted to show here. The helplessness one can find oneself in at the end of a relationship…

Haha, thanks! Since Project 1 (which I will resume in a few weeks) is a love story I’m trying to get back in the mood.

  2. Most of the times if somebody wants to leave from us no matter we want to stop them just like Eliza said we have nothing we can do, but the matter is at least they knew how much we love them even most of the times love isn’t enough the reason to stay…. I love the poem so deep, strong and touchy…

  3. Beautiful, and sad in its truth. Like Eliza and Will said, once someone decides to leave we cannot stop them and suddenly we want them more than we ever did before, I think. We make one last-ditch effort but it isn’t enough because it is too late.

Who is ‘her”? You wrote “And for her”. I thought maybe there is a baby/child involved? Or a dog. πŸ˜‰

    1. Yes, I’m glad you noticed! πŸ˜€ I was thinking of the woman, who is leaving, as being pregnant which makes her departure even more tragic for the narrator.
